Based on the data of the Recording Industry Association of Korea, R&B group SG Wannabe's fourth album ``Arirang'' was the best-selling album of 2007. However, it only sold a total of 190,998 copies, as compared to SG Wannabe's previous hit albums in 2006 (341,642 albums sold) and 2005 (414,855 albums sold). Even more distressing for the K-pop music industry, only albums by SG Wannabe, Super Junior and Epik High managed to surpass the 100,000 sales mark. Super Junior, a wildly popular idol group, sold 164,058 copies of its second album ``Don't Don,'' while hip-hop stars Epik High sold 120,301 copies of its album ``Remapping the Human Soul.'' Other best-selling artists include Shinhwa member Shin Hye-sung, Seeya, F.T. Island, M.C. The Max and Toy. Surprisingly, the Wonder Girls debut album, which includes their hit song ``Tell Me,'' only sold 47,927 copies (ranked 15th best selling album). K-pop hit its peak in 2000, when hit albums from Jo Sung-mo, g.o.d. and Seo Taiji sold more than a million records each. Jo's album, which topped the sales charts in 2000, sold 1.98 million copies. In the following years, album sales have faltered, mainly due to the popularity of digital music. More people prefer purchasing and downloading digital music on to their computers or mobile phones, instead of buying the actual CD. The last time an album sold more than 1 million records was in 2001. Foreign music album sales also experienced a decline in 2007. The best-selling foreign album is the soundtrack to the hit film ``Once,'' selling 36,725 copies. Kim Hee Chul, the busiest member of Super Junior has undergone an operation this afternoon at Sam Seong Seoul Hospital in Ilwondong, Seoul. This is his third left leg surgery where the iron rods he kept on his left leg for 2 years have been removed.Hee Chul suffered a major injury from a car accident 2 years ago when he was heading back to Seoul from Mokpo, where he went to attend his fellow Super Junior member Dong Hae's father's funeral. He fractured four to five places on his left leg including his ankle, femur, and knee which required a 6-hour surgery and sustained several other injuries including a tear to his tongue which required stitches.Kim Hee Chul is now conscious from a few hours sleep and is required to undergo another treatment in a month. Doctors adviced him to take a full rest but with the fact that normal activities are possible.

Music entertainment giant SM Entertainment Group announced recently the establishment of an affiliate that will focus on musicals - and they`re bringing super-sexy boy-band Super Junior along for the ride.With former comedian and singer Pyo In-bong taking the helm as co-CEO, SM Art Company - as the affiliate is called - will pursue businesses in organizing and creating diverse performances including musicals, as well as operating theaters, SM Entertainment officials said."With the artists and global networking that SM Entertainment has, along with our well-organized performance producing system, SM Art Co. plans to become one of the best performance entertainment businesses in Asia," Pyo said at the press conference in Seoul on May 28.For their first project, SM Art Company will stage a Korean version of the musical "Xanadu," a Broadway musical based on the 80s movie of the same title starring Olivia Newton John.The musical will feature two members of Super Junior, one of the country`s most popular boy bands - Kang-in and Hee-chul - in the role of Sonny."Since it is our musical debut, we will do our best not to bring inconvenience to other talented actors," the singers said. "We also hope that we could bring more young people to our musical and ultimately to theater." "Xanadu" is a story about Kira, the muse of music who comes to the human world and falls in love with artist-wannabe Sonny while giving him inspiration. Kira creates a roller-skating rink where music, dance and sports can all be enjoyed.The musical is to feature songs such as "Xanadu," "Magic," and "Suddenly" from the original movie.Pyo said since producing and creating content has become the most important thing for entertainment businesses these days, the company will not only to bring licensed musicals, but also put efforts into creating their own. But the CEO did not mention any specific piece or ideas on future plans."Xanadu" is to be staged from Sept. 9 through Nov. 23 at Doosan Art Center located in Yeonji-dong, northern Seoul. After receiving news that Hee Chul is not performing in the SJ-H, I found these pictures of him at LA, Hollywood Bowl. As you can see, this is why he is not performing. He looked like he needed a real break. Plus, you know the SM slave driver is pushing him to perform a musical with Kang In, evethough his leg is still having great pain. Both YG and SM Entertainment are fighting to get a place in Musical. Oh why oh~ They are doing these to our idols (cry @n@;)
