Rush Hour star Chan opened the program by leading dozens of singers and the audience in a moment of silence for the casualties in Japan. The singers then linked arms as they performed the event's theme song, Succumb Not to Sorrow, based on a poem by children's writer Kenji Miyazawa.

"The more ruthless natural disasters are, the more love there should be in the world. Winners Announced for 2011 Asian Film Awards

The Thai film "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" was named best picture at the fifth Asian Film Awards on Monday in a ceremony overshadowed by the absence of Japanese filmmakers who stayed home in the wake of a deadly earthquake and tsunami.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul's mystical drama follows a dying man from Thailand's rural northeast who explores his past and the idea of reincarnation in his final days. Apichatpong said it was especially sweet to win in his home region, a year after he took the top Palme d'Or award at France's Cannes Film Festival.

Leon Lai to Might Be Father

The news broke when the singer-actor's father unwittingly disclosed during a gathering that Lok is two months pregnant.

Lai, 43, and Lok met in 2000 and started dating openly in 2005. Their secret Las Vegas wedding only came to light in 2009 following the exposure of a string of Hong Kong celebrity secret marriages.

Since then, there have been several false alarms over Lok's pregnancy.

However, it seems likely that there will be a new addition to the Lai family in the new year when an overjoyed elder Lai blurted out "I'm going to be a grandfather!" during a recent gathering of friends.

It is widely understood that the family is delaying the official announcement to keep in line with traditional Chinese custom.

According to belief, it is bad luck to announce one's pregnancy any earlier than three months.

It is also reported that Lai's absence at the recent wedding ceremony of fellow Hong Kong star Miriam Yeung and Real Ding was related to Lok's pregnancy.

Outsiders earlier perceived that Lai's no-show was due to the poor relationship between him and Yeung.

However, it is now believed that his absence was in strict accordance to traditional customs as it is considered bad luck when two auspicious events clashed together.

Both Lai and Lok have remained silent over the matter despite reporters' repeated attempts to contact them.

Charlene Choi tired of comedies

Hong Kong singer-actress Charlene Choi revealed that she is tired of doing comedies and hopes to some day do a romantic tragedy, reported Chinese media.
"A lot of people approach me to do comedies and I generally don't turn them down, but I hope a director will ask me to do a romantic tragedy," she said during a promotional event for her new film "Jade Pearl" - yet another comedy - in Shanghai on Sunday.
When asked if this preference was due to her own 'romantic tragedy', her very public divorce from singer Ronald Cheng, Choi quickly denied it.
"You are too sensitive. It just made me become more mature," the actress told reporters, before explaining that her relationship with Cheng had allowed her to understand the different facets of love.
During the event, the 27-year-old who is one half of the now defunct Canto-pop duo Twins, also complained that she is being asked to crossdress too often in her films.
"Jade Pearl" was no exception.
"In almost every film, the director asked me to dress like a man," Choi lamented. "Maybe I just look like one."

Edison Chen is BACK Release new album in October

Disgraced Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen has revealed that he will be releasing an album in October when he attended Hong Kong rap duo FAMA's recent concert, reported Chinese media.

"I will write all the lyrics for this upcoming album because I have a lot to say to my fans and don't want to be misinterpreted by middlemen.

"The lyrics to the album's Cantonese songs will be written by me. MC Hotdog will help translate my English lyrics into Mandarin for the Mandarin songs in the album," Chen told journalists, adding that the album will be 80 per cent in Mandarin and 20 per cent in Cantonese.

When asked if this would mark his return to showbiz, Chen, who had spent most of his time in the United States since his sex photo scandal hit the headlines in 2008, said that he "wasn't sure" and wondered if he had "ever left".

The 29-year-old said he had been asked to perform publicly on numerous occasions over the past two years but he declined as he did not want to sing his old songs.

"My career was temporarily on hold but I don't understand the phrase 'return to showbiz'. If people feel that I am 'returning to showbiz', I am okay [with that]," said Chen, before going on to admit that he was "not completely ready to appear in a film yet".

Cecilia Cheung makes comeback in CJ7 animated movie

The animated movie spin-off of Stephen Chow's 2008 sci-fi comedy blockbuster CJ7 is opening July 6 in theaters in Mainland China, and the press conference for the movie was held on June 13 during the Shanghai International Film Festival. Besides Chow and child star Xu Jiao, the event saw the surprise attendance of long-dormant Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung and her two-year-old son, Lucas, who effortlessly captured attention with his innocent toddler manners. The mother-son duo is set to record a Mandarin duet as the movie's theme song. Cheung famously rose to movie stardom with her debut film, Chow's King of Comedy in 1999. She has been absent on the silver screen since Wai Ka Fai's The Shopaholics and Wong Jing's My Kung Fu Sweetheart in early 2006, opting to stay away from the spotlight to mother two sons for husband Nicholas Tse. Directed by Toe Yuen (My Life as McDull), the animated CJ7 movie is not only the first film released under Chow's new production banner, but also marks the cinematic return of an acclaimed actress - and potentially the debut for a new-generation star in the Tse family.

Da S gets nominated for HK's Golden Elephant Awards and has no confidence in winning; Scared that Xiao S would steal all the limelight

Da S gets nominated for HK's Golden Elephant Awards and has no confidence in winning; Scared that Xiao S would steal all the limelight
On the 26th of February, Da S(大S) accepted an interview while in Hong Kong. She expressed that she has never once gotten any award related to acting, and she feels extremely honoured that for her first time acting in a Hong Kong movie, she has been nominated for this year's Golden Elephant Awards. Howver, she has no confidence in winning because of the competition between many 'queens'. During the ceremony, she would only bring her mother along and not her sister, because she is afraid that Xiao S(小S) would dress too sexily and steal the limelight away from her. First time being nominated - has no confidence in winningRegarding her nomination for Best Actress in this year's Golden Elephant Awards, Da S expressed that it was a pleasant surprise and a huge encouragement for her. She said: "My sister and I debuted at a very young age. In these few years, I have sang, hosted and filmed movies. However I haven't won any award recognition for them. This is my first time participating in a Hong Kong movie and I can get nominated for Best Actress. When I was first informed of this, I didn't know why I flew too. This is my first time being nominated, and my name can be listed along with so many queens - I feel extremely honoured. I hope that I will be able to film more movies and get nominated." Later on, when she dropped by Xiao S's house, her daughter ran out and congratulated Da S: "Congrats auntie for being nominated", which delighted and pleased Da S very much. Predicts that Prudence Liu and Louis Koo would winThis time, Da S is competing with 'queens' like Zhou Xun(周迅), Bao Qi Jing(鲍起静), Prudence Liu(刘美君) and Karena Lam(林嘉欣). Da S expressed that for her, a nominated would be enough, and she has no confidence that she would win the award, because her opponents are all too strong: "I've seen 'Painted Skin', and Zhou Xun was just too marvellous in there. It really makes me not have confidence. Karena Lam is very unique, she has her own style of actings. Prudence Liu has won the Golden Horse Award before, so I predict that this time, she would be the one to win. For the Best Actor category I think Louis Koo(古天乐) would win, because I really liked his movie, 'Run Papa Run 一个好爸爸'."Laughed and said that she's scared that Xiao S would steal all the limelightLater on, Da S happily said that no matter whether she would get the award or not, she would dress up very nicely for the event. When asked whether many big brands had offered her attire for the awards night, Da S humorously replied: "Let Lin Chiling (林志玲) choose first, the rest can be given to me." Other than dressing up for the event, Da S also wants to bring her mother along. However, she rejects the idea of Xiao S attending. She said: "My mother is not familiar with my work status in Hong Kong. I want to make use of this opportunity to show off a little to her. Also, my mother wishes to see all those big stars. But I do not want to go with Xiao S, because she always dresses in clothes that are too revealing, and will steal the limelight away." Other than this, filial Da S also wishes to bring her mother on a holiday to Switzerland.

Stars Come Out For MTV Asia Awards

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — The Pussycat Dolls and British pop sensation Leona Lewis added a bit of glamour and sex appeal to MTV's Asia Awards show on Saturday, which showcased the best in global and regional music.
The Grammy-nominated Dolls, who shot to fame in 2005 with their worldwide hit "Don't Cha", strutted their stuff at Malaysia's hilltop Genting Highlands casino resort, packed with 3,000 fans and industry A-listers.They were just one act in a star-studded line-up that included Lewis, OneRepublic, Panic at the Disco, South Korean boy band Super Junior, The Click Five and US dance crew Jabbawockeez.
Singing their latest hit "When I Grow Up", the Pussycat Dolls elicited screams from the hundreds of young fans in the mosh pit with their suggestive dance moves, but the girl group said they were not trying to be provocative.
"We are better prepared this time to perform in Malaysia and we have deep respect for the culture. It is about the music, not about sexy. We are going to respect the people of this country and the culture," said Jessica Sutta.
The group came under fire last year from Muslim authorities here for their raunchy performances and sexy attire, which earned concert promoters a 10,000 ringgit (2,700-dollar) fine.
Lewis, a former winner of the British reality show "X Factor", sang her international hit "Bleeding Love", before scooping the prize for Breakthrough Artist, beating out OneRepublic, pop singer Mika and US rockers Daughtry.
"I just have to thank everyone for helping me come so far. I've had such an amazing time in Asia," Lewis said.
Event host Jared Leto, a US actor who also fronts the band 30 Seconds to Mars, surprised the crowd by hinting that Lewis could be signing at the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics later this month.
"I can't say anything about it yet, but there is a possibility that I will be singing there," she told a press conference after the show.
OneRepublic took home the Best Hook-up award for their collaboration with mega-producer Timbaland on "Apologize", which they performed for the shrieking crowd.
In the Asian categories, Super Junior won the honours for favourite Korean artist, while the "Knockout Award" for the artist with the most influence among Asian youth went to The Click Five.
Thailand's favourite artist was TorSaksit, while Leo Ku won for top Hong Kong artist, besting Canto-pop idol Andy Lau.
US rockers Linkin Park were named Asia's favourite international artist, while Chicosci was named the best Philippines artist. Nicholas Teo won for Malaysia and Yovie & Nuno were tops in Indonesia.
Singapore's top act was the petite Stefanie Sun, a five-time winner of the same award and Taiwan's top pick was Show Lo.
Spiky-haired songstress Li Yuchun was China's favourite artist.
Hong Kong actress-singer Karen Mok was given a special "Inspiration" award for her work as a social activist.

Stuntman killed! Six others Burned Because of "Red Cliff" Reported in CNN

A stuntman was killed on the set of Chinese blockbuster "Red Cliff" on Monday, local media reported yesterday. The John Woo-directed historical action drama is based on a famous battle during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China. After the collision the fire burned out of control on both ships. A 23-year-old stuntman died and six others were injured. Production has been halted temporarily. Hong Kong Artists 2008 Beijing Olympics Jackie Chan,Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has launched its "Hong Kong Saddles Up For Olympics" promotion in Asia, officially rolling out its pan-regional publicity campaign for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Three renowned regional cable channels, namely the AXN, National Geographic Channel and ESPN STAR Sports have joined hands with the HKTB to produce special promotional videos featuring nine celebrities and international sports personalities. The videos, together with a TVC starring HKTB’s tourism ambassador Mr Jackie Chan, is now being aired on the three regional cable channels to reinforce publicity for Hong Kong as an Olympic co-host city, and to highlight Hong Kong’s distinctive living culture and diverse tourism appeal.
At the launch ceremony, HKTB Chairman The Hon James Tien was joined by a host of celebrities appearing in the videos, including Canto-pop singers Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung, Olympics windsurfing gold medallist Lee Lai-shan, Asia and Hong Kong’s leading triathlete Lee Chi-wo, and Hong Kong golf open tournament contender James Stewart. Over a hundred guests joined the event and witnessed how the stars promote Hong Kong’s charm to overseas audience both on stage and in the promotional TVC and vignettes.
"The HKTB started its Olympic promotions in the long-haul markets late last year. Given that summer is traditionally the peak travel season for the short-haul markets, the HKTB will capitalise on Hong Kong’s edge as an Olympic co-host city and step up promotions in the Asian markets," Mr Tien said. "By leveraging the influence of the celebrities and international sports personalities, we hope to widely publicise Hong Kong’s strengths as an Olympic co-host city, so as to elevate Hong Kong’s destination image."
Apart from the celebrities present at the premiere, celebrities Karen Mok and Donnie Yen, former English team captain of Hong Kong Sevens Phil Greening and Hong Kong’s top international jockey Douglas Whyte also participated in the filming of the videos. All featured celebrities shared their joy of Hong Kong being a co-host city of the Beijing Olympics, followed by their vivid introduction of Hong Kong’s local cuisine, shopping and tourist attractions. Some of them even demonstrated their favourite sports.
AXN, ESPN STAR Sports and National Geographic Channel will feature promotional vignettes starring those nine celebrities and the TVC starring Jackie Chan for a month.
