Update on 3 TVXQ members vs. SM Entertainment

Still no agreement between three members of TVXQ (Hero Jae-Joong, Micky Yoo-Chun, Xiah Joon-Soo) and SM Entertainment.
On May 7th the court continued case of TVXQ’s lawsuit to nullify their exclusive contract with SM Entertainment. During the day, SM Entertainment argued that the profit dividing ratio between the company and the members is not that bad compared to the dividing ratio used from other entertainment companies in Korea. SM Entertainment also argued that the previous result of the lawsuit only granted a limited freedom for the members and that their separate contract with AVEX is a serious violation of their exclusive contract with SM. On the other side, three members of TVXQ argued that both the length of time period and the profit dividing ratio were not legally fair.
The court wanted to find a compromising point that both sides could agree upon but failed to do so. The court will decide whether to open up a retrial (requested by SM) based on the day’s hearing and evidences submitted from SM entertainment.

Finaly Singer Dave Wang hints at retirement

Veteran singer Dave Wang has hinted that he may retire after his latest concert tour and promised that the tour will showcase his old works in their original form, reported Chinese media.

Speaking to reporters at a recent publicity event in Beijing, China, Wang commented that many singers nowadays tend to embellish or modify their older works too much.

He said that his upcoming concert tour, which will see him performing in countries like China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, would buck the trend.

Wang explained that they will feature his "classic songs like 'A Game, A Dream' and 'Do I Really Have Nothing' completely unchanged from before".
"Recently during rehearsals, I have been wielding a whip against members of the band to make sure they don't change the musical arrangement," joked Wang.

Charlene Choi tired of comedies

Hong Kong singer-actress Charlene Choi revealed that she is tired of doing comedies and hopes to some day do a romantic tragedy, reported Chinese media.
"A lot of people approach me to do comedies and I generally don't turn them down, but I hope a director will ask me to do a romantic tragedy," she said during a promotional event for her new film "Jade Pearl" - yet another comedy - in Shanghai on Sunday.
When asked if this preference was due to her own 'romantic tragedy', her very public divorce from singer Ronald Cheng, Choi quickly denied it.
"You are too sensitive. It just made me become more mature," the actress told reporters, before explaining that her relationship with Cheng had allowed her to understand the different facets of love.
During the event, the 27-year-old who is one half of the now defunct Canto-pop duo Twins, also complained that she is being asked to crossdress too often in her films.
"Jade Pearl" was no exception.
"In almost every film, the director asked me to dress like a man," Choi lamented. "Maybe I just look like one."

Edison Chen is BACK Release new album in October

Disgraced Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen has revealed that he will be releasing an album in October when he attended Hong Kong rap duo FAMA's recent concert, reported Chinese media.

"I will write all the lyrics for this upcoming album because I have a lot to say to my fans and don't want to be misinterpreted by middlemen.

"The lyrics to the album's Cantonese songs will be written by me. MC Hotdog will help translate my English lyrics into Mandarin for the Mandarin songs in the album," Chen told journalists, adding that the album will be 80 per cent in Mandarin and 20 per cent in Cantonese.

When asked if this would mark his return to showbiz, Chen, who had spent most of his time in the United States since his sex photo scandal hit the headlines in 2008, said that he "wasn't sure" and wondered if he had "ever left".

The 29-year-old said he had been asked to perform publicly on numerous occasions over the past two years but he declined as he did not want to sing his old songs.

"My career was temporarily on hold but I don't understand the phrase 'return to showbiz'. If people feel that I am 'returning to showbiz', I am okay [with that]," said Chen, before going on to admit that he was "not completely ready to appear in a film yet".

Lin Chiling to take acting classes after series failure

Taiwan model-actress Lin Chiling expressed her disappointment over the dismal ratings of her Japanese drama serial "Moonlight Lovers" and revealed that she hopes to take some acting classes next year, reported Chinese media.

Speaking to reporters while attending the high-profile Royal Ascot horse races in the UK, Lin was evasive and said, "Could we not talk about the ratings (of "Moonlight Lovers")? Frankly, I am a little depressed at the moment."

"I want to take this chance to take in as much air as I can. This can be considered a short break!" Lin added.

"Moonlight Lovers", which also stars Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura, tanked in Japan, managing only 13.4 per cent in ratings. Its average ratings also lost out to other J-dramas this season.

The drama's producer, Fuji Television, was reportedly so disappointed that it intends to cut short the show's run to eight episodes instead of the usual ten for a drama in the 9pm time slot, with its finale scheduled to air on July 5 in Japan.

Many netizens had blamed the drama's poor ratings on a bad script and Lin's acting. Despite this setback, Lin said she "will improve in the areas I am weak in and satisfy everyone".

The 35-year-old went on to reveal that she hopes to make time for acting classes at the beginning of next year.

Yao Ming in talks to star in NBA-approved basketball movie

Basketball has seen a significant rise in popularity in China in recent years, with several Chinese players going to play in the NBA in America. Hong Kong's Apple Daily reports that the NBA, seeing an untapped market with plenty of expansion potential in China, will be teaming up with the Shanghai Film Group to produce the basketball film Amazing, with Yao Ming, Huang Xiaoming, and Shawn Yue all in talks to star.

To be directed by stage director Sherwood Hu, Amazing follows a group of aspiring basketball players in China who become the disciples of NBA stars Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant, and veteran Magic Johnson. The young players would eventually go up against their mentors when the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers are invited to play exhibition matches in China. While Huang has never acted in a sports-associated role before, Yue was a member of the Hong Kong youth basketball team, making him an appropriate choice for the film.

Cecilia Cheung makes comeback in CJ7 animated movie

The animated movie spin-off of Stephen Chow's 2008 sci-fi comedy blockbuster CJ7 is opening July 6 in theaters in Mainland China, and the press conference for the movie was held on June 13 during the Shanghai International Film Festival. Besides Chow and child star Xu Jiao, the event saw the surprise attendance of long-dormant Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung and her two-year-old son, Lucas, who effortlessly captured attention with his innocent toddler manners. The mother-son duo is set to record a Mandarin duet as the movie's theme song. Cheung famously rose to movie stardom with her debut film, Chow's King of Comedy in 1999. She has been absent on the silver screen since Wai Ka Fai's The Shopaholics and Wong Jing's My Kung Fu Sweetheart in early 2006, opting to stay away from the spotlight to mother two sons for husband Nicholas Tse. Directed by Toe Yuen (My Life as McDull), the animated CJ7 movie is not only the first film released under Chow's new production banner, but also marks the cinematic return of an acclaimed actress - and potentially the debut for a new-generation star in the Tse family.

TVXQ JaeChunSu Trio To Change Name To J.Y.J?

The trio announced the formation of a new unit last month and to show their appreciation, they scheduled a concert series on June 5th and 6th in the Osaka Dome as well as on the 12th and 13th in the famed Tokyo Dome. Well, it’s been recently made known that they will not use the name TVXQ for the concert but instead promote it using the name J.Y.J which stands for Jaejoong Yoochun Junsu. This could very well be a temporary move as Avex Entertainment may have legal issues with using the TVXQ name, but still many fans are voicing their concerns over this move.

This scenario is very similar to events that happened over a decade ago. H.O.T., one of the greatest K-Pop groups of all time had a fall out with SM Entertainment. Three former members from H.O.T., Jang Woo Hyuk, Tony An and Lee Jae Won went on to form their own group named J.T.L.

MatsuJun Steps Into The Spotlight for "Tsuki no Koibito"

Matsumoto Jun (26) may be stepping out of the shadow of Kimura Takuya (37). Both are members of Johnny' Jimusho idol groups, of which KimuTaku's SMAP are the still hugely popular veterans, while MatsuJun and Arashi are being carefully groomed as the next dominant force. One indication of this is yesterday's (27.05.10) announcement that Matsumoto has landed the lead role in a Monday night drama series on Fuji TV, making him the first Arashi member to do so.

The 9pm time slot is considered the most prestigious of all, and it was in that time slot that Kimura achieved audience ratings among the highest of modern times with shows like "Beautiful Life" (TBS, 2000) and "Hero" (Fuji, 2001). This spring, Fuji put Kimura in the spotlight with "Tsuki no Koibito" but as with his other recent dramas, ratings have been good rather than spectacular. So, attention will shift to how Matsumoto does in the romantic "Natsu no Koi ha Nijiiro ni Kagayaku." His love interest will be provided by always solid Takeuchi Yuko (30).

Matsumoto said, "I've been watching Monday night dramas on Fuji TV since I was a kid. So it's a great honor but also a lot of pressure. I will do my best to live up to it." The story is an original from Ohmori Mika (38), who wrote last year's basketball drama "Buzzer Beat." Matsumoto will play a struggling actor trying to get out of the shadow of his famous actor father.

Lin Chi-Ling is being Hated in "Moon Lovers" Causes Kimura Takuya Fall!

Three weeks have passed since Lin Chi-Ling’s first Japanese drama premiered, but the news just seem to get worse every week. Despite having superstar Kimura Takuya as its lead actor, ratings for Moon Lovers dropped to a new low for episode 3. At 15.6%, it marked the second lowest rating for the actor in 14 years! Many netizens are predicting that next episode’s ratings will dip below 15%.

Model-turned-actress Lin Chi-Ling hasn’t had the best of luck since she ventured out into acting. Her signature baby-voice was dubbed over in the second installment of Red Cliff, while her last movie The Treasure Hunter was a big flop. Her acting in Moon Lovers hasn’t been fairing much better as viewers criticized her questionable Japanese and again, her baby-voice. Netizens are also blaming Moon Lovers’ failure on its illogical writing, as well as Kimura Takuya’s never-changing acting.

The ratings of Moon Lovers started off with 22.4%, followed by 19.2% on its second week and further dropped to 15.6% for the latest episode. Some netizens suggested that ratings might have been better if the drama focused on Kimura Takuya and lead actress Shinohara Ryōko instead.

Jolin dons wigs for sexy stockings ad, nets NT$30M paycheck

Following the recent economic recovery in East Asia, Taiwanese pop queen Jolin Tsai received NT$30M (US$900K) from a recent commercial shoot for a mainland Chinese stockings company. Jolin had on fishnet stockings while on a motorcycle, acting the part of the beauty as she frequently crossed her legs during her poses and got the eyes of male staff members on set glued to her. The singer reportedly earned NT$1.2B (US$36.1M) from advertising.

Jolin also donned a short bob cut wig and super short shorts while beautifully "riding" a motorcycle with some beautiful grey-colored silk stockings. The subsequent commercial shoot went by pretty fast, but it took Jolin over an hour to change for the shoot itself. Not only that, but she curled her hair ten days earlier in order to get into the look for an ad for a shampoo product.

Her second set of shoots was more relaxed, as Jolin showed off more of her chest and modeled in a super short dress and a miniskirt, once again getting the male staff members' hearts racing. Last year, Jolin endorsed 11 products, but shortly after the economic recovery in East Asia, the pop star promoted products ranging from Pepsi and shampoo to socks and motorcyles.

Jolin Tsai's chest under scrutiny again

After her appearance at an event in Shanghai, the Taiwanese pop princess's ample assets have come under scrutiny again as it appeared shrunken and smaller.

Jolin Tsai's heaving "G-cup" chest has come under the spotlight after it appeared visibly shrunken and smaller at a performance on Saturday.

In response to the alleged news reports of her deflated bust size, Jolin indirectly admitted that her chest was a product of man-made measures when she refuted, "That's because I didn't stuff anything! I want to dance, that's why I didn't want to stuff anything."

Korean Artisits Drug Abuse scandal puts a movie maker in panic

We reported today that singer/movie actor Mr. Kim was charged for use of marijuana and methamphetamine. It was also revealed that he was about to star in a new movie, which drove the makers of that movie into a panic.

The makers of this movie that Mr. Kim was supposed to be the main actor for are facing an emergency situation as they must find a new main actor. Everything was good to go up until now, and they were supposedly only a few days away from crank-in; they had even performed traditional rituals to ward off any bad luck. A staff commented, “Mr. Kim even put on a mini concert at the ritual to show his initiative… this is so unfortunate.”

Neither Mr. Kim or his management company can be reached at this moment and they are said to be having a meeting on damage control.

Netizens had suggested that police description for Mr. Kim, which is 24-year-old singer/movie actor, perfectly fits Taegoon. We had reported back in April that Taegoon was selected as the main actor for upcoming new movie Piano Above the Sea.

Jaebum COME BACK to Korea on the 11th June

2PM's EX leader Jaebum will be returning to Korea on the 11th.

An associate revealed, "Jaebum is set to return on the 11th. He has work in New York for three days but will be heading straight to Korea after wards. It's a bit later than planned."

He also went on to state, "We are discussing plans for him to meet with his fans while recording for the movie."

Casting for his little sister's role is nearing completion. Dennis Oh will also be acting in this movie.

Wonder Girls Boyfriend No More

Earlier we reported that the Wonder Girls appeared on KBS 2TV’s Win Win. They will be appearing on the show once again on June 1st, and the episode will feature some interesting tidbits about the girls’ dating life.

We all know that most, if not all, idol groups aren’t allowed to date for various reasons (ie. fans, scandals, etc.), but it seems big daddy Park Jin Young is a bit lenient on the matter, with a few conditions of course.

On the show, the MC asked the girls whether or not they wanted to date. They responded, “We do want to date. Park Jin Young told us to just wait 3 years after our debut, but after we made our debut in America, he told us to hold on for just 2 more years. How long are we supposed to wait?”

Xiah Junsu is the #1 solo artist in 2010!

Although the popular Korean group Tohoshinki paused their activities in April, one of the members, Junsu, debuted as XIAH Junsu with his solo single, "XIAH (Intoxication)" on May 26th, coming in at 2nd place on the rankings. It sold around 195,000 copies by the first week, a new record for 2010 for a solo single (Yuusuke's "Lion", released in March, sold about 92000 copies.)

The single contains the song titled "Beautiful Love ~As Long as I Have You", which is to be used as the theme song for fellow Tohoshinki member's Yoochun's new drama, "Beautiful Love ~As Long as I Have You~" (To be released on June 4th).
